Accepts all Work Control Center phone calls, dispatches pertinent information through two-way walkie-talkie system and beepers to the appropriate Buildings & Grounds Department personnel for corrective action, and provides documentation and reports on all operations of the work control center.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Serves as hospital liaison for all maintenance requests with in-house personnel and outside agencies.
2. Response to and prioritizes emergency calls, assesses situations and dispatches appropriated trade personnel; follows up on emergency calls from customers to assure satisfactory completion.
3. Processes all phone requests and remote work order requests; enter into computerized work order system and distributed to the appropriate shops/mechanic for action.
4. Participate in hospital drill i.e. code pink, disaster drill, Ebola drill.
5. Prepare customized maintenance reports as requested – i.e. work order backlog, work load/cost center, etc.
6. Update and maintain inventory control system for charge out purposes.
7. All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Conditions
1. General pleasant working environment – high volume of phone calls, alarms sometime heavy walking traffic.
2. Must display exceptional patience to deal with impatient and, at times, unknowledgeable telephoned demands for service
3. Is subject to call in any time for emergencies.
4. Compliance with Hospital rules and standards, universal precautions procedures will minimize risks. Qualifications:
1. High school education with additional training in computer or equivalent experience.
2. Good verbal and written communication skills required.
3. General knowledge of standard office equipment and typing ability of 50 to 60 words per minute.
Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Requires interpersonal skills to interact, with all levels of hospital staff and to diplomatically and efficiently gather and relay information.
2. Requires knowledge of the technical areas within the department in order to accurately assess and relay routine emergency service information. Knowledge can be obtained with six to twelve months of on-the-job training.
3. Requires ability to make decisions and take appropriate action within the guidelines of established procedures.
4. Must be able to work under pressure – high volume of phone calls, busy working environment.
5. Failure to perform would significantly disrupt the operation of the hospital and could result in lost revenues, bad public relations and excessively costly facility operations, repairs and projects.
