Program Goals:
• To improve our ability to diagnose, monitor and treat symptoms of PPA and related disorders
• To improve our understanding of the changes in the brain and behavior that characterize PPA and related disorders
• To connect patients and families with resources for assessment and treatment, planning and education
We are currently looking to hire a speech language clinical fellow who will provide diagnostic, treatment and counseling services to patients with Frontotemporal Disorders in a research and clinical setting. She/he will work with patients who demonstrate speech, language, and cognitive impairments. The position primarily entails performing clinical research on FTD and related disorders according to protocols (including administering speech language evaluations) and working collaboratively to ensure that the highest quality research and patient care are provided. These skills will be acquired throughout the clinical fellowship year:
• Ability to accurately screen, diagnose and treat patients with communication disorders/FTD and related disorders.
• Ability to formulate appropriate treatment plans for patients presenting with communication disorders/FTD and related disorders.
• Ability to use evidence-based practice literature to guide practice
• Ability to carry out department’s policies and procedures
• Ability to work collaboratively with supervisor to facilitate goal setting and positive change
• Ability to problem solve, suggest and implement solutions
• Ability to function as a team player
• Ability to meet all documentation requirements and deadlines.
• Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate diagnostic and treatment results to patients, families, referral sources and others through written and verbal modalities.
• Demonstrates dependability, perseverance, and flexibility
• Demonstrates clinical/academic/research and professional currency in the field of Communication Sciences and Disorders
• Demonstrates organizational skills
• Demonstrates communication skills, including listening, speaking, nonverbal communication and writing, taking into consideration the communication needs as well as the cultural value of the patient, the family, caregivers, significant others, health professionals and colleagues
Education and Training Requirements :
• Minimum of a completed Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Disorders
• Eligibility for Certificate of Clinical Competence by American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
• Eligibility for Massachusetts License
• MGH Fire Safety/Standard Precautions Training
