Represent the clinical support staff (aides/coop students) in meetings, committees, and serves as the first line for mitigating concerns with external departments.
Communicates new clinical support programs/equipment/procedures/updates to clinical support staff (aides/coop/exercise science students) and clinical staff in department meetings and/or email communications.
Responsible for overseeing the flow of daily operations that support clinical practice including but not limited to environment of care/supplies/meeting regulatory standards. Department opening procedures/updating procedures.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Patient Care:
1. Under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist:
• Applies superficial heat/cold modalities
• Performs routine and established therapeutic exercise programs
• Assists in treatment when two individuals are needed for safety
• Performs functional training and patient ambulation
• Prepares patient and treatment area for treatment
• Creates/collates/copies educational materials for patients
• Performs registration and scheduling for Team as required
• Escorts patient to treatment area
2. Provides clinical support consistent with Hospital/department policies
3. Follows infection control guidelines, policy and procedure
Environment of Care Management:
Responsible to Liaison with other MGH departments to insure:
1. Coordinates with Administrative Director/Clinical Director maintenance/repairs for Environment of Care
2. Insures storage areas in compliance with TJC standards, arranges modifications with B&G
3. Orders and maintains linens, supplies, equipment
4. Maintains staff office area and kitchen areas (cleans refrigerator/microwave/orders kitchen supplies)
5. Maintains treatment areas, equipment storage areas, waiting areas
6. Arranges for storage modifications with B&G
Equipment/Supply Management: Inventory/Storage/Tracking/Maintenance:
1. Orders equipment and supplies from vendors
2. Monitors availability/functioning and need for servicing of equipment
3. Arranges equipment repair/service with vendors and biomedical engineering
4. Initiates appropriate action for malfunctioning equipment (e.g contacts biomedical engineering/vendors for service).
5. Tracks and arranges return of department equipment from patients/facilities
6. Communicates status of equipment with staff
7. Maintains MGH Materials Management inventory (OPD)
8. Maintains TENS/FES equipment
9. Completes low-level disinfection of equipment after patient use and end of day.
10. Provides routine cleaning for: (OPD) hot pack unit, paraffin, cold packs, whirlpool
Communication:
1. Communicates effectively with staff, peers, colleagues, patients, and family members
2. Communicates effectively with coop students, exercise science student interns
3. Communicates effectively with internal and external facilities/vendors
4. Provides timely communication to supervising therapist/clinical director regarding problems/issues
EPIC:
1. Updates staff lists with in processing/out processing, staff moves, and rotations
2. Records patient care through established department mechanisms as needed• BS degree preferred; High School diploma required
• Minimum of 2 years of aide/tech experience
• Knowledge of MGH environment, systems, processes preferred
• Achievement of designated competencies
• Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of infection control
• Demonstrates understanding of department policies and procedures
• Understands proper functioning of equipment and its basic maintenance
Language Skills:
• Fluent in written/spoken English
Interpersonal Skills:
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, patients/families/other departments
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Must have demonstrated teamwork and job performance
• Must respect the principles and comply with policies of Patient Rights, HIPAA, confidentiality
• Ability to demonstrate compassion for patients.
Computer/Technology Skills:
• P roficient with Microsoft office applications, MGH & Department applications (eg SharePoint, PCkits, Partners Paging/Voalte systems, EPIC)
Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
• Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations
• Ability to recognize emergency situation and responds appropriately
