Participates in mandatory and elective rotations in order to fulfill the following responsibilities: Promotes optimal patient care in the continuum of medical care; educates other health care professionals, and patients on medication-related topics; models effective leadership behavior; works effectively with others; Monitors/evaluates own performance.
Completes one or more projects for which resident has major responsibility
Rotations may include: cardiology, psychiatry, MESAC, practice administration, general medicine, MICU, SICU, OR, pediatrics, oncology, staffing. As delineated by each rotation:
Competent to treat infants through elderly as needed in rotations in which resident participates
Reviews all drug therapy to insure that medication orders are reasonable, appropriate and chemically and physiologically compatible
Participates in rounds with physicians and nurses
Teaches pharmacy students
Supervises technicians in handling and dispensing of medications
Attends and participates in department-sponsored continuing education programs, drug information meetings and journal club meetings.
Participates in inter- and intradepartmental committees and task forces
Makes recommendations for improvements to existing pharmacy methods and procedures and offers new ideas, as part of the department’s quality improvement effort
Obtains and maintains CPR/ACLS certification
Participates in DUE activities
Participates in ADR reporting, assessment, and education
Maintains familiarity with research protocols
Participates in department staff meetings and/or reads minutes of each meeting
Follows policies and procedures
Completes appropriate documentation, including interventions
Demonstrates effective teamwork and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of Federal and State laws and regulations
Understanding of standard precautions and infection control
Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Attention to detail
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to work in high-pressure situations
Ability to work well as a team member
Ability to meet deadlines
BS or PharmD degree in pharmacy
Valid license to practice as a pharmacist in MA
Must be already matched to MGH via the National Matching Service
