Collect, perform and document patient data, specimens and aspects of care:
Take and records vital signs
Perform and record blood glucose testing
Perform and record Urine Hcg testing results
Record, download and transmit 12 lead ECG
Perform phlebotomy
Assist with equipment preparation and set up:
Retrieve equipment from other areas in the Surgery suite and Center too
Clean equipment between patient use and store, covered, in appropriate areas
Clean and prepare patient bays
Set up the following equipment for patient use:
Vital Sign monitors
Portable oxygen cylinder
Nasal cannula
Simple Venturi mask
Aerosol nebulizer system
Pulse oximeter and probe
Suction canister-liner system
Temporal Artery Thermometer
Assist in providing a safe and comfortable patient/family experience:
Maintain patient and family confidentiality.
Respond to patient and family requests, including answering patient call lights in a timely manner.
Seek registered nurse assistance when necessary to meet patient/family needs.
In the Pre-op and PACU Unit, remove medications from the pneumatic tube system and deliver them directly to the registered nurse responsible for the patient as directed.
Provide care appropriate to age group of patients on assigned unit(s) as described in the relevant unit profiles.
Perform all duties to provide high quality performance and meet efficiency standards.
Work collaboratively with Surgeons and the Medical Director to accommodate their needs and priorities in caring for the ambulatory surgical patient.
In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Perioperative Resource Nurse, identify and meet own learning needs. Complete annual required training and update knowledge through periodic in service training.
Perform other duties related to the Patient Care Associate role delegated by a registered nurse.
