The Chief of the Nurse Midwifery program is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Midwifery Division within the MGH Ob/Gyn Department. The Chief Nurse Midwife has administrative, clinical, and teaching responsibilities. She promotes the midwifery model of care and leads midwifery practice within MGH. The chief, along with midwifery staff, provides antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and benign gynecological and family planning care in several community health centers and in ambulatory and inpatient practice sites.
This leadership role requires flexibility, independence, and the ability to support and guide a large group of midwives in their clinical practice. Additionally, this position requires an ability to lead the midwifery team in a healthy interdisciplinary collaboration with other members of the perinatal health care team.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Chief Nurse Midwife plays a key role in the setting the strategic agenda for the midwifery program and works with departmental leadership to implement this vision. The Chief Nurse Midwife works in a matrix organization reporting directly to the Vice Chair of Obstetrics while working closely with the Chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Directors of the Specialists Group (OB/GYN), and Nursing Directors of Ambulatory Obstetrics, Labor & Delivery, and Postpartum.

Skills/ Competencies Required:
1. Graduation from an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery and Education (ACME).
2. Successful completion of the certifying examination by the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB).
3. Enrollment in the Certification Maintenance Program by the AMCB.
4. Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM)
5. Three years’ experience as a Nurse Midwife preferred.
6. Skills in interpersonal communication, teamwork, research, and organization required.
7. Masters Required.
8. Language skills preferred.
