Receiving general direction from the Chief Technologist, the incumbent performs standard, complex and continuously recorded electroencephalographic, and special procedure EEG recordings in the EEG laboratory as well as continuous bedside long-term monitoring on all patient floors and intensive care units. Monitors additional physiological phenomena by means of appropriate techniques. Provides training and may participate in research projects. The Specialist should be able to work independently and also have the ability to hold the Department pager and respond to requests and issues as related to the lab in the absence of the Chief Tech.
PRICIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
All of the Neurophysiology Technologist duties and:
Performs all routine duties of the neurophysiology technologist and special procedures while assigned to work in the EEG/Evoked Potential and LTM Units.
Serves as a resource and role model for Neurophysiology Technologists and students, including patiently and properly training others at the Neurophysiology Technologists level as assigned. Mentors junior staff as necessary and requested.
Performs standard and complex procedures.
Enters and schedules EEG and LTM orders, enters billing information, researches and reconciles and billing questions as they relate to neurophysiology procedures.
Toggles between multiple modalities to perform a number of different procedures.
Applies electrodes to special patient populations such as pediatric and adult autism spectrum, Angelman’s, ECMO, Neurosurgery and other complex patient populations in a calm and professional manner. Includes clear and pleasant communications with patient and their family.
Performs ACYSTE, SAH, TBI, Skin Integrity and Electrocebral Inactivity (ECI) protocols and changes headbox in accordance with protocol.
Quickly and accurately notifies fellows of emergent EEG findings.
Communicates appropriately with all care teams, including physicians, both in Neurology and outside Neurology.
Participates in Departmental education and training of new hires and students.
.QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic training program or associates degree with one-year EEG experience. R EEG T preferred.
SKILLS / ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
All of the Neurophysiology Technologist competencies and:
Ability to be a Natus super user- including mastery of transitioning and using TREX, Brainmonitor and Quantuum systems
Ability to be an Epic super user- including competency in Worklist, snapboard, reading worklist optimization, special order entry, billing reconciliation, research billing, and outside hospital billing and reporting
Application competent in extended 10/10 systems, T1-T2, subtemporal chain, and research applications. Ability to apply collodion, Cover-Roll, dMIR, REG and other modalities as needed.
Competent and comfortable in applying electrodes to special patient populations such as pediatric and adult autism spectrum, Angelman’s, ECMO, Neurosurgery and other complex patient populations
Ability to perform ACYSTE, SAH, TBI, Skin Integrity and Electrocebral Silence protocols
Ability to work independently
Ability to be a resource to other Technologists
Ability to independently communicate effectively with colleagues, fellows, and physicians and identify when communication should be escalated.
Works on-call, off shift and weekends as scheduled and/or needed
WORKING CONDITIONS
Outpatients and ambulatory inpatients are tested in the EEG Laboratory. Bedside tests are performed on the floors if patients non-ambulatory or in ICUs.
