The Shih Lab is seeking an ambitious Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to join our team. As a member of a multidisciplinary research group in the Departments of Radiation Oncology and Gordon Center for Medical Imaging, the CRC will be bridging the gap between the current standard of care and future treatment modalities. We are located at MGH’s Main Campus in Boston, MA.
Ongoing investigations span from preclinical trials in animal models, namely rodents, to clinical trials in patients. The main project requiring assistance tests a novel approach to neuromodulating the brain circuitry implicated in substance abuse disorders. Radiation therapy offers a non-invasive method to target specific areas of the brain exhibiting abnormal activity, and has been effectively used to treat depression, Parkinson’s Disease, and other diseases. The CRC will be intimately involved in building this project from the ground up by establishing the stereotactic surgery model and applying it to drug-addicted rats. Given the nature of this experiment, regular weekend work is required. We estimate that working on this project will comprise a significant portion of your time, but there are also many other opportunities for growth as a CRC. They include classic CRC duties, such as IRB management, consenting patients, and coordination of study visits. Excitingly, retrospective clinical studies, basic science work at the bench, data processing of PET/CT imaging, clinical shadowing, and potential authorship roles are all accessible within this position.
As such, this position’s responsibilities extend beyond the scope of a typical CRC; the CRC will be expected to conduct research across a variety of phases, seamlessly switching between animal husbandry and patient interaction, for example. This position is ideally suited for someone that is motivated to explore various types of research and will take advantage of the resources available to them. A strong desire to learn new skills, willingness to be a team player, and ability to work independently are highly preferred traits for this unique position.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Handle rodents and performing protocol-specific procedures
• Administration of scheduled substances to rats
• Work with radioactive materials
• Participant recruitment and consenting
• Escort research participants during on-site visits and educate them about study procedures
• Serve as point of contact for research participants during their involvement in complex protocols
• Maintain database of study records in accordance with laboratory practice and regulatory guidelines
