Summary:
The Marist College Education Department seeks candidates for the position of Program Director, Master of
Arts in Teaching and Professional Lecturer of Education to begin in Fall 2024.
We welcome candidates with a passion for
preparing future P-12 teachers. This position oversees the 5-year Adolescence/Students with Disabilities Education program (grades 7-12) and
offers guidance and vision for this important area of teacher preparation.
The MAT students are prepared to be competent, confident,
and successful teachers from the very first moment they step into their classrooms. The students benefit from small, intimate classes,
dynamic classroom conversations, and readily accessible faculty. The diverse faculty members challenge the students to grow as future
leaders and educators. Assignments are timely, relevant, and geared toward the professional development of our students.
We are
excited to announce the opening in fall of 2024 of the fully renovated Dyson building which will include a state-of-the art STEM/Teaching
Methods classroom with adjoining Maker Space.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have (1)
a doctorate degree in Adolescence- Secondary Education or a related field, (2) teacher certification, (3) teaching experience in P-12
schools, and (4) a student-centered approach to preparing future educators. Applicants should be able to model culturally responsive
pedagogical approaches across all courses and foster inclusive classroom environments.

About the Department/School:
The Education
Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social
work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual
certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade add-on teacher certification, and (3) adolescence education,
grades 7 – 12, with dual certification for students with disabilities in eight content areas (English, math, social studies, biology,
chemistry, earth science, Spanish, and French). The department also offers two master’s level degrees: The MS in Education, Contemporary
Curriculum & Instruction, and the MAT.
The Education Department and the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences are committed to
advancing a diverse, equitable, and inclusive climate. The school has taken leadership with several social justice initiatives, including
Creating an Inclusive Community dialogues, the Marist Center for Social Justice Research, and the Marist College Diversity Leadership
