As a Sr. Staff Software Engineer, you will be a key technical leader and role model within an organization. We are looking for someone who designs and develops technology to serve business and technology objectives, aligns points of view across teams, and makes smart tradeoffs to help achieve the goals of individual teams as well as LinkedIn’s broader goals. This leader will foster LinkedIn’s culture and values around transformation, collaboration, and results.
The Flagship Search team is responsible for the Search experience on Linkedin.com and our mobile apps, enabling our 1Billion members to find, discover, and explore communities and marketplaces to be more productive and successful. Search has been playing an increasingly important role in the LinkedIn ecosystem, with 50% of WAU (75M members) searching every week. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for creatively solving complex member problems and technical challenges to create a world class conversational search experience. We are the gateway to LinkedIn’s Economic Graph – an interconnected network of millions of people, companies, jobs, groups, events, posts, and more.
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Staff Engineer to expand search offering to include every piece of content at LinkedIn and explore the best search and discovery interactions paradigms for members. You will be in the center of the action through building solutions that drive engagement, building the roadmap, designing new systems, exploring venture bets and collaborating with experts in machine learning (LLMs), NLP, infrastructure and product managers to deliver results. You will drive key architecture decisions for extending and scaling our systems.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver impact by driving innovation while building and shipping software at scale
• Drive technical roadmap and architecture across the Search engineering organization
• Lead by example to build a culture of craftsmanship and innovation and mentor the next generation of engineering leaders.
• Identify problems and opportunities and lead teams to architect, design, implement and operationalize systems
• Resolve conflicts between teams within the organization to get alignment and build team culture
Basic Qualifications:
• BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• 7+ years of experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions with at least 2 of those years in an architect or leadership position
• 5+ years of experience in programming languages such as Python, Java, C/C++, C#
• 3+ years of experience in an architect or technical leadership position
Preferred Qualifications:
• MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline.
• 10+ years’ experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions
• 10+ years’ programming experience in an object-oriented programming language such as Java, C/C++
• 5+ years’ experience with large-scale distributed systems and client-server architectures
• Experience designing and building search systems. Knowledge of search solution on third-party platforms (Google, Bing, LLMs etc)
• Full-stack experience from mobile/web development all the way through backend systems and relevance.
• 2+ years’ experience working with machine learning/artificial intelligence
• Experience in leading cross-organization, cross-functional efforts and successfully delivering transformational technology for hard problems.

The pay range for this role is $171,000 to $280,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
