As the Manager of SEO, you will play a key role in delivering our ambitious revenue goals on a portfolio of 500 voyages operated annually by our fleet of 10 expedition ships. Your actions will deliver fast and substantial improvements in our search visibility and authority, and thus in our reach of potential customers searching for our type of travel experiences. You will be a pioneer in this role, but work closely with engineers, copywriters, social media, product marketing, expedition developers, analytics, PR, and advertising colleagues to unlock the revenue opportunity that SEO brings. The successful candidate will show expertise in both Technical and On-Page SEO. This position reports to the VP Audience Acquisition, Analytics & Insights who also oversees Paid Digital Marketing.
Key responsibilities & accountabilities
Technical SEO:
· Conduct a site audit and develop a roadmap of improvements to our site’s technical health.
· Advocate for the most impactful technical enhancements to meet key business objectives. Clearly and effectively articulate these to a non-SEO audience.
· Perform ongoing technical audits, identifying and resolving technical SEO issues.
· Educate the team on SEO best practices and partner with engineers to ensure they are properly implemented.
· Direct link building initiatives.
· Recommend changes to website architecture.
· Keep abreast of Google’s search ecosystem including algorithm updates and new features. Investigate potential issues when algorithm updates roll out.
On-Page SEO:
· Manage the relationship with Conductor and ensure we are maximizing our benefit from the tool.
· Conduct keyword research to inform content ideation.
· Advocate for the most impactful content enhancements. Clearly and effectively articulate these to a non-SEO audience.
· Partner with copywriters, product marketing managers and the social media team to guide marketing efforts.
· Collaborate on the content calendar and roadmap.
· Partner with the Paid Digital Marketing team to ensure alignment of goals.
· Collect data and report on traffic and our organic rankings.
· Research and analyze competitor SEO activity.
· Report on trends in Google.
Qualifications and experience
– Bachelor or Graduate Degree in Marketing, Mathematics, Finance, Computer Science, or Economics.
– 5+ years of relevant, hands-on experience managing all SEO activities.
– Demonstrable experience with both the technical and the editorial sides of SEO.
– Demonstrable experience delivering rapid organic traffic growth.
– Demonstrable experience with agile web development processes.
– Extensive knowledge of current SEO practice and digital growth trends.
– Experience with Conductor or similar tools.
– Superlative analytical skills and demonstrable ability to draw logical conclusions.
– Expertise with quantitative analysis software.
– Demonstrable experience at Test & Learn experimentation.
– Excellent collaborative skills.
Communication Skills
Using the English language, this person must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos. Must also possess the ability to effectively communicate-both in writing and orally-with a professional demeanor.
Other Skills/Abilities
– Strong skills in organization, time management, handling multiple tasks, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
– Proficient computer skills in the Windows operating system, including both word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
– The ability to be proactive and work independently as well as with others in a team environment.
– Occasional travel may be required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee will also be required to write and type. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
