Title: Assistant Professor of Education

Job Summary/Basic Function:
Under the direction of the Dean of Education and Liberal Arts, provide course instruction to students utilizing multiple teaching formats.
1. Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester.
2. Provide a minimum of 5 hours to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
3. Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
4. Recruitment of students.
5. Course and program assessment.
6. University/community service.
Duties:
Innovate and build a teacher education program into a flagship program that is highly desired by students and whose graduates are highly desired by school districts for teaching positions. Contribute expertise in science and math at the elementary level. This growing program needs a collaborative faculty member to provide superior and in-depth instruction and coaching to future teachers.
1.) Expand the teacher education program through high quality teaching and steadfast, strategic recruitment of students.
2.) Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester.
3.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
4.) Participate in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
5.) Course and program assessment.
6.) Assist with ongoing CAEP accreditation work.
7.) Perform university/community service.
8.) Contribute to the online presence, marketing, and website maintenance of the SOE.
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree in education or related field.
Desire and innovative/entrepreneurial energy to continually improve program quality and enrollment.
Five years of successful PK-12 teaching experience with evidence of experience in providing effective teaching
Ability to teach broad range of education courses including teaching methods courses.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach using multiple formats including synchronous and asynchronous online, blended, and face-to-face, sometimes using Zoom and face to face at the same time for the same class to reach remote students.
Excellent understanding of American educational systems and classrooms.
Preferred Qualifications:
ABD, Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Education
3 or more years of experience teaching at the undergraduate level
3 or more years of K-12 teaching experience
Experience in educational technology, science, and social studies teaching
Interest in Great Lakes stewardship and education
Physical Demands:
Typical demands of teaching at the university level exist, with the ability to stand for up to 4 hours in a single class session. The ability to manage the physical demands of 12 credits per semester, with the occasional possibility of overload and night classes.
