The Life Science Technologies (LST) business unit of Johnson Matthey is a specialty business serving the pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemical markets with high added value solutions. Our products include an extensive line of novel palladium coupling catalysts, a major chiral technologies platform combining bio catalysis and asymmetric hydrogenation, supported heterogeneous precious and base metal catalysts.
We have an exciting vacancy for an experienced Commercial Manager to join our team in the USA. We are looking for a tenacious individual with a strong commercial mindset who can build & maintain relationships with key customers as well as someone with new business development skillsets to detect and respond to unmet needs in a highly technical market and capture new business opportunities. The incumbent will be responsible for a large share of LST revenues in NA and will therefore be a key contributor to LST global revenue target in this highly visible role.
Principal accountabilities
Deliver the Regional financial targets for the assigned accounts/segments in North America
Manage and develop existing and new customer relationships
Actively seek, detect & develop new business opportunities with new and existing accounts and generate sales growth.
Develop & Execute Account Management plans with key customers to deliver goals & ambitions agreed with the Head of Sales.
Coordinate with the supportive functions (Legal, R&D, Finance, Production, etc..) to ensure that internal resources are aligned to support commercial activity for the assigned segments or accounts
Lead contract negotiations (eg: MSA) and secrecy agreements for the assigned accounts with the support of the Head of Sales.
Propose business unit pricing strategies and ensure that budgeted sales and margins are achieved
Monitor competitive activity and participate in the development and implementation of appropriate response strategies
Keep close customer contact, monitor, and follow up catalysts demand on an on-going basis and create reliable forecast
Attend trade fair and exhibitions as requested
Present LST catalyst portfolio and new products and/or product improvements to customers in conjunction (when necessary) with Technical Service and R&D
Interact with the technical teams involved in products design, improvements, and introduction to keep up to date with the new materials to be promoted.
Develop and maintain close relationship with the Customer Service Representative of each territory
Maintain a fluid communication with the other sales managers globally, and have a view of the relevant global accounts
Requirements
Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or any relatable field
Project Management skills
Ability to detect customer needs & position commercial offer in complex technical environments
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Proficient IT skills (Microsoft Office)
Some Account Management experience with global organizations in a technical field
Proven negotiation skills for commercial and legal affairs
Knowledge of LST product range and applications desirable.
Prior experience in pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals market desirable.
