Satellite Controller

Your role in helping us shape the future:

You will be a member of a team that performs satellite operations in a control center providing 24/7 satellite operations for a fleet of spacecraft following Intelsat and Space Systems Engineering Operations (SSEO) policies and procedures. You will perform activities scheduled in the daily activity plan, monitor telemetry, and execute spacecraft commands and procedures for the Intelsat satellite fleet. You will also monitor the performance of the TTC system infrastructure and configure it to respond to scheduled activities, detected failures and non-nominal configurations. You will provide a technical interface for SSEO staff and other departments, operating and managing the daily functions of the TTC network and operating and maintaining Satellite Control equipment.

Are you up to the challenge?

• Performs as satellite controller, monitoring all Intelsat and third-party satellites including ground assets for proper operation and responding to satellite and network alarms
• Operates Satellite and ground systems according to established procedures
• Executes commands (both scheduled and non-scheduled) on satellites as required
• Provides technical interface with the responsibility of being a conduit between engineering staff and satellite control staff to ensure controllers are keenly aware of nominal and non-nominal configurations
• Generates, updates, or identifies ground control system procs and operations procedures. Submits change requests that are viable and within the scope of ConOps for validation by senior Satellite Controllers.
• Participates in creating, updating, correcting procedures on nominal and non-nominal configurations
• Conducts and assists with troubleshooting of all Real-Time Ground Systems operated at the assigned Satellite Operations Center
• Executes directed activities of the TTC&M Network assuring ground support coordination between off-line activities, controllers, and satellite operations
• Performs TOSS operations including staffing console and providing interface to customer
• Perform in a “ready response” role 24x7x365 providing support to Satellite Operations
• Assure operations products/documents/procedures and infrastructure reflect the current scope of operations and are clearly defined to all operators
• Participate in daily shift briefings
• Participate in all scheduled training sessions and stay current with personal training and development
• Review and provide pertinent feedback for documentation updates/changes, policies, methodologies, and processes related to the Satellite Operations
• Develop proficiency performing daily Satellite Operations tasks and TTC infrastructure troubleshooting actions
• Perform routine performance checks on specified software and processes
• Must be available to work 12-hour rotating shifts, provide on-call support, and work major holidays
• Assist training of peers
• Execute drift coordination and interference mitigation tasks
• Responsible for range activities, scheduling, and ensuring range collection along with troubleshooting range anomalies
• Maintain a record of all SatOps and TTC&M Network activities in the daily log and participates in the operations meeting

You should definitely have:

• Must have at least one year of applicable experience or a technical degree (minimum high school degree)
• General knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and basic troubleshooting principles
• Must be able to work under pressure and be able to work as a team player in stressful situations.
• Must possess good English communications skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to work with diverse, multi-cultural, multi-lingual customers and teams
• Ability to work independently and be self-directed
• Ability to prioritize, multitask and organize daily
• May require some limited travel
• Proven ability to multitask
• Ability to be a team player
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts on nights, weekends, and holidays as required, as well as work rotating shifts as required
• Ability to be on-call including returning to work off-hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
