General Summary
The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.
The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications provides leadership and direction for all Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality marketing and communication efforts, ensuring compliance with University standards, and also works collaboratively to coordinate professional development opportunities within the Department.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Directly supervise three full-time professional staff, and indirectly supervise up to five student staff.
Perform continuous evaluation of marketing methods, language, campaigns, and technology to determine how current trends relate to the department, the Division of Student Affairs and Illinois State University’s overall goals and mission. Utilize this knowledge to provide leadership in the development of marketing strategies to support the mission, visions, and goals of the Department.
Provide leadership in developing and managing various communications for the Department, including but not limited to managing department responses to stakeholder, customer, and guest inquiries; managing the department’s responses for media requests; developing and updating various departmental publications, presentations, and reports; and managing crisis communications as needed for the department in collaboration with the University’s leadership team.
Collaborate with department training/development team to identify, plan, and implement professional development opportunities for staff related to topics such as interpersonal skills, safety/emergency planning, leadership development, equity/diversity/inclusion, customer service, and other key competencies needed to perform work effectively.
Provide leadership in developing and implementing a strategic vision for the Department’s engagement with a variety of constituencies. This includes but is not limited to targeted communications, consistent branding and design standards, marketing campaigns, and events focused on outreach to key stakeholders throughout the campus community to promote the Department’s facilities, services, events, dining options, employment opportunities, and more.

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Marketing, Public Relations, Communication, Business Administration, or related field.
2. Four (4) years of full-time or part-time equivalent professional, progressive experience in marketing, public relations, communications, and/or related field.
3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds while supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment.
4. Demonstrated experience developing and implementing marketing and communication plans, including media relations and communications, web site development, social media, print publications, and promotional events.
5. Demonstrated knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, general knowledge of website software, and general knowledge of graphic design standards for print and media.

1. Master’s degree.
2. Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
3. Demonstrated leadership, planning, and managerial skills.
4. Demonstrated experience with analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, and group dynamics.
5. Demonstrated experience with strategic planning and assessment at a department level.
6. Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and project-oriented, think strategically, and maintain a strong attention to detail.
7. Demonstrated and highly developed interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal).
8. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with diverse constituencies.
9. Demonstrated ability to successfully coordinate and facilitate programs independently and with limited supervision.
10. Demonstrated competency with managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
11. Demonstrated ability to build relationships within the department, across campus and in the community to promote services, programs, and events.
12. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to successfully relate to a variety of internal and external clients.
Work Hours
Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm
Functional Expectations
Must be able to complete the following with or without a reasonable accommodation:
1. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally for events.
2. Effectively communicate on a daily basis.
3. Remain at a workstation for extended periods
4. Move about in various locations across campus as needed to complete day-to-day work.
