Position -Assistant/Associate Literacy Faculty- Department of Curriculum and Instruction
The Department Curriculum and
Instruction provides two undergraduate programs (B.S. in elementary education and a secondary education minor program), a master’s program
that is currently being reimagined, and several school-university partnerships. The Department of Curriculum and Instruction seeks
applicants for assistant or associate tenure-track faculty position to begin fall semester of 2023.
Howard University

D.C. It has a Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education status of RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity).
Howard University’s commitment to preparing educational teachers and leaders which dates back to 1890. The School of Education seeks to
improve and expand educational opportunity and access, particularly for African Americans and other underserved communities with a strong
institutional commitment and capacity for advancing educational leadership preparation, research, and practice.
Teacher Education
and Reading and Language Arts
Candidates must have demonstrated: a) emphasis in equitable instruction for diverse learners in the
area of reading and language arts; b) evidence of successful university instruction at undergraduate and graduate levels; c) evidence of
active publication record with a focus on African American learners and literacy outcomes; and d) demonstrated outcomes in seeking external
funding. Candidates must commit to working in a productive, collegial atmosphere; preparing teachers to serve diverse populations in urban
environments; developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate courses; advising students and supporting student scholarship. Other
requirements include an earned doctorate in an appropriate field and three or more years of K-12 teaching experience.
Preference will
be given to candidates with the ability to: (1) demonstrate knowledge and sensitivity to instructional issues related to K-12 learners from
various cultural and linguistic backgrounds; (2) ability to lead and guide professional development workshops sponsored by the National
Writing Project; and 3) link transformative theory to teacher education preparation and the willingness to explore urban and
alternative programs and methods to prepare teachers in the current environment.
