House In The Wood in Delavan Wisconsin is looking for staff to teach our students from Chicago Public Schools during a three day residential experience. We teach Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) OUTDOORS and social emotional learning (SEL) concepts like relationship skills, social awareness, and responsible decision making. We have documented positive changes in our students and their classroom from just a three day experience with House In The Wood outdoor educators. We are looking for people with a love of outdoors, some basic knowledge about the natural world plus experience and love for working with children. We will train you on everything from trama-informed care to first aid/CPR to science lessons to SEL. Are you someone who wants to make an impact on our 420 kids this Spring?
Our season begins with 2 weeks of training on April 4 (one week in Wisconsin and the rest in Illinois) and ends after 6 weeks of 3-day student visits on May 27. Be prepared to teach outdoors! Spring in middle Illinois brings averages in April of high at 62 and low at 42. May brings us highs of 73 and lows of 52. It is rainy as well.
The fine print: We pay $100 per day so $4000 for the season from April 4 to May 27. Housing and meals are provided. You work Monday-Friday with weekends off and you need to live onsite during the week. Your typical day starts at 8am and ends at 8pm with breaks during the day. You are NOT supervising our students at night. Four Outdoor Educators are sharing a lodge building with a lounge and basic kitchen. Everyone has their own bedroom and their own bathroom. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, our program has moved off-site to Pilgrim Park in Princeton, Illinois (near Peru/LaSalle, IL). Our two weeks of training includes everything that you need to know to teach our children. Coaching is available from Val throughout the season to deal with anything before it becomes a problem. We can help you get to House In The Wood by picking you up at the nearest public transportation. Transportation and errand runs during the season are also provided as needed. Questions? Contact Val at 262-441-1762 or [email protected]. See you soon!
