GRINNELL COLLEGE – The Department of Education invites applications for a one-year term appointment in Language & Literacy
Education beginning Fall 2024. Assistant Professor (Ph.D) preferred; Instructor (ABD) possible. Preference will be given to candidates with
secondary (5-12) English language arts teaching experience and experience with teaching emergent bilinguals.
We are looking for a
colleague whose research and teaching is situated within the College’s mission of valuing diversity and social responsibility; and who
will bring to our department an equity-centered focus as it relates to teacher education, critical pedagogies, and student-centered
classrooms. A successful applicant’s research and teaching interests might include but are not limited to: secondary (5-12) English
Education, critical literacy, language teaching, and emergent bilinguals.
The teaching schedule will be five courses over two
semesters. Two sections of the introductory education course and a secondary English Language Arts methods course will be required. Other
course options could include: a course in the cultural politics of language teaching; a course in young adult literature; and a course in
the curriculum appropriate to the candidate’s interest and expertise. There is also the possibility for supervision of teacher
candidates.
Candidates are encouraged to identify the departmental courses they would be interested in teaching and/or describe an
intermediate level course they would be excited to teach that would appeal to students both in and outside of the education licensure
