This is a true Generalist role, supporting employee relations, talent acquisition, investigations, onboard/offboarding and administration.
_This is a temporary position that will last approximately eight to ten weeks, possibly longer._
*Responsibilities Include*
* Act as Advisor to employees and managers in matters related to conduct, terminations, complaints or concerns, conflicts with coworkers and other issues
* Actively participates in the recruitment of staff for Operation and Retail divisions, from independent contributor to directors
* Prepare documents and facilitate onboarding, coordinating with hiring manager and cross-functional departments to ensure a seamless first-day experience
* Educate newly hired employees on HR policies, internal procedures and regulations
* Manage terminations; work with department managers, Payroll, IT and Benefits to collect equipment, disable accounts and ensure final pay in accordance with California Labor Code
* May assist Benefits Manager with Open Enrollment
* Assist with year-end reporting
* Maintain employee files in electronic and hard copy format
* Complies with federal, state, and local regulations; advises management on recent legislation and court rulings; advise management of required changes to policies or practices
* Assists with the interpretation and upkeep of employee handbook
* Conducts investigations
* Work with Safety Manager on Workers Comp including documentation, claim status tracking and broker communication
* Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
*Qualifications Include*
* Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal labor law; remains current on legislative changes and recent court rulings
* Must have critical thinking skills with the ability to problem solve
* Works with a sense of urgency; adaptability is essential
* Being Proactive is second nature
* Detail oriented and accurate; reviews own work
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
* Capable of working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities; ability to pivot
* Service-oriented with excellent people skills
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to partner and build relationships with all levels of staff and management.
* Prior HRIS experience preferred
* Desired ability to work as a team with a result driven approach
* Reliable, organized, and detail oriented; ability to handle difficult situations and competing priorities with composure.
* Ability to run queries in HRIS and export, organize and format data for reports in Excel
* Live Scan is required in certain locations
* Must be 21 years of age or above
* Ability to travel to other locations, including overnight travel, if required
*Education and Experience Include*
* 3-5 years of HR experience in the role of a true Generalist; experience must include employee relations, recruiting, investigations, workers comp and administration.
* Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field; equivalent experience will be considered
* One to two years of experience with full cycle recruitment
* Experience interpreting labor laws and assessing risk
* Prior experience managing workers comp claims
* Proficiency with MS Office
* Prior experience with a start-up a plus.
