OVERVIEW
We are seeking an intellectually curious engineer with strong mathematics and theoretical background who is eager to apply modern modeling and simulation methodologies to solve complex and challenging food design and processing problems. You will work with engineers and scientists to design, develop, and optimize our current and next-generation food processes to make food the world loves!
This role is within our ITQ’s Nutrition, Technology, & Science organization. In NTS, we help our Operating Unit-aligned R&D teams transform consumer-centric possibilities into realities through science. We build and advance technical solutions to enable innovations and drive efficiencies in ingredients, process, packaging, and products.
What You’ll Be Doing:
We are looking for a Master’s or Ph.D. engineering degree holder with a strong academic background who can analyze real-world situations using data-centric and phenomenon-based modeling tools. Applying multiple lenses such as process dynamics, fluid and solid mechanics, reaction kinetics, heat and mass transfer, and process control, you will work independently or with a team to:
- Leverage fundamental chemical and/or mechanical engineering principles to dissect and understand how great-tasting food is made on our equipment.
- Apply computer-aided engineering (CAE) modeling, process modeling, and data-driven or machine learning techniques to analyze and develop a hypothesis to solve complex engineering problems that will improve process efficiency and product quality.
- Develop cutting-edge hybrid simulation methodologies and tools, such as multiphysics modeling or hybrid mechanistic modeling / machine learning to drive learning.
- Integrate cross-disciplinary software and hardware tools as needed for problems at hand (e.g. Visual Basic/Python programming, PLC programming, vision systems, computer-aided design (CAD), etc.).
- Design and execute experiments in concert with collaborators to test hypotheses, generate data needed for model validation, and scale-up / scale-down to translate insights.
- Develop modeling and simulation approaches in tandem with experimentation to advance technical possibilities, drive technical learning, deliver adopted solutions to problems, and capture big business impact.
- General Mills advocates employee personal development and growth. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for advancement either within our digital transformation pillar or gain new experience by moving across other exciting areas within Innovation, Technology & Quality.
