Genentech Looking for Lab Assistant II – SBX Nanopore Technology at Washington Full Time

Who we are

Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (SBX Nanopore Sequencing) in 2020 for its novel Sequencing by eXpansion (SBX™) technology. SBX™ uses unique applications from chemistry, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and protein engineering to sequence DNA by nanopore in rapid time with high accuracy and low cost.

The Sequencing team is devoted to developing our high throughput, low-cost DNA sequencing approach into an industry disrupting product that will facilitate the care that patients need.

Who you are

The successful candidate will join the SBX Detection Sequencing team to assist in the day-to-day operation of the team in developing the nanopore technology.

Your main responsibilities

• Track and maintain team’s inventory of chemicals, solutions and consumables. This includes preparing solutions and ordering supplies/consumables needed.
• Lead on maintaining sequencing area organization and cleanliness, including communal work space, chemical cabinets and waste cabinets.
• Coordinate & prepare outgoing shipments and receive incoming shipments for the team.
• Complete any other assigned duties to support the department
• Able to closely follow established SOPs and record any deviations from protocol.
• Regular maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Analyze and interpret reagent quality control data using various data analysis software (e.g., Excel, Python). Prepare clear reports that include conclusions and any necessary follow-up steps to review with manager.
• Assume accountability for electronic lab notebook documentation, ensuring protocols and results are recorded timely, accurately, consistently, and according to established formats.
• Communicate actively, effectively, and promptly with manager on project status, data analysis findings, and process deviations.
• Support management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner. Embrace priorities and responsibilities set forth by management.
• Participate in routine lab maintenance, lab safety, ISO, and QSR implementation.
• After training on our current work processes and established SOPs, execute defined sequencing experiments that advance research and development efforts on our multifaceted nanopore-based sequencing platform.
• Perform work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA). Make recommendations and act as appropriate to keep the lab a safe environment for all team members, including regular housekeeping tasks.
• Adhere to Roche Diagnostics Seattle policies and complete any additional duties as assigned.

Your key qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Molecular biology, Protein Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work-experience is required

1 year of related experience preferred

Your additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Previous experience working with nanopores or sequencing technologies is preferred
• Previous work or internship experience in a biotech/molecular biology lab setting
• Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, sterile technique, solution preparation, etc.).
• Comfortable with standard molecular biology techniques
• Very good organization skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Comfortable working with Google Docs & Microsoft office suite
• Familiar working with Apple, Microsoft, or Linux operating systems
• Ability to work safely within the lab and take appropriate actions to ensure lab safety.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a keen ability to listen to directions and company goals and execute them effectively.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals and groups at all organizational levels.
• Ability to receive constructive feedback and turn into an opportunity for development
• Disciplined and thorough at following established procedures.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Washington is 43,400.00 – 80,600.00. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
