The Reading Specialist program is an online, graduate level program housed in the Advanced Education Programs Department, College of
Education, at Fort Hays State University (FHSU). This award-winning program supports graduate candidates in earning a Master of Science in
Education degree with a Reading Specialist emphasis. We invite submitted applications for a full-time, limited residency, tenure track
Assistant or Associate Professor position.
The primary responsibility of this position is instruction and advising coupled with
coordination of the program, with the expectation that the faculty member will also engage in scholarly activity and university/professional
service. The areas of responsibility are apportioned at 52.5% Teaching/Advising, 7.5% Program Coordination, 20% Scholarship, and 20%
Service.
Successful candidates should have a solid background in the Science of Reading/Structured Literacy, having served as a
reading specialist or similar position in Pre-K through 12th grade settings, and having demonstrated leadership roles related to supporting
the Science of Reading/Structured Literacy in broader educational settings. Successful candidates should also have diverse institutional,
educational, research, and experiential backgrounds, including teaching in a higher education setting.

About the Department:
The Advanced Education Programs
Department is housed in the College of Education at Fort Hays State University. This department offers twenty-nine Master’s
and Education Specialist programs for candidates pursuing advanced endorsements or degrees in educational or community
settings. All programs are offered fully online with the exception of some courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School
Counseling, and Higher Education Student Affairs. Our education programs are accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of
Educator Preparation (CAEP), and the two counseling programs are accredited through the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related
Educational Programs (CACREP).
Community of Hays
FHSU is located in Hays, a vibrant college town of
approximately 20,000, located halfway between Kansas City and Denver on Interstate 70. Hays is the regional center for education, health
care, professional services, shopping, culture, and recreation for the western half of Kansas. The community boasts excellent recreational
programs and facilities, including the comprehensive Center for Health Improvement, Hays Aquatic Park, Smoky Hill Country Club, Hays
