Land Development Services (LDS) is the steward of the county’s land development and building construction codes and regulations, and its staff members embrace their essential role as “first preventers.” Every day, through careful review, permitting and inspection of site and building construction, our staff protect the health, safety, welfare, and environment for those who live in, work in, and visit Fairfax County. Our department also serves as the gateway to much of the county’s economic development, reviewing over 30,000 building and site plan submissions, issuing nearly 70,000 building permits, and conducting over 220,000 building and site inspections each year. Under the direct supervision, performs first level professional human resources duties for LDS. Assists in the following functional areas of human resources, including but not limited to employment and selection, employee relations, employee benefits, performance management, workforce planning, job descriptions, Family Medical Leave, systems (JDMS, FOCUS, PEAQ and NEOGOV), data and analytics, awards and recognition. Assist with career fairs, providing advice and guidance to hiring managers and candidates, posting positions, and supporting the interview process. Partners with employees and managers to communicate Fairfax County and LDS policies, procedures, laws and regulations. Coordinates new hire details with various divisions to ensure a successful onboarding experience. Partners with LDS human resource staff to coordinate FMLA actions. Conducts exit interviews. Updates and edits position descriptions, assists with the annual performance evaluation process, handles confidential information in a professional manner and assists the human resource manager in developing, producing, and analyzing various reports.
