The opportunity

As a Senior Manager within the Transportation sector, we’ll look to you to take ownership of key deliverables and workstreams by developing a point of view, driving problem solving and insightful analysis of our clients’ most strategic issues. You will interact directly with our clients and continually challenge yourself to navigate ambiguous situations and ever-changing circumstances. You’ll add value by looking at the bigger picture and thinking creatively for new solutions.

Your key responsibilities

Senior Managers act as the primary client contacts and subject matter specialists and are responsible for translating client needs into project tasks and deliverables. You will manage day-to-day problem-solving and team analytical activities and serve as key liaisons between consulting team members and our clients. Senior Managers are also responsible for mentoring, inspiring and developing team staff. Additionally, you will support the growth of the business by working alongside partners on new opportunities with potential clients, including preparing for and participating in pitch meetings, creating proposals and working on the sales process.

Our teams work on a variety of client issues within the developing asset light ecosystem. The range of assignments includes developing long-term strategies for organizations, improving educational achievement outcomes, developing new marketing channel strategies, reducing operating costs, and evaluating new business ventures.

Skills and attributes for success

• Play a leadership role in developing our Americas transportation account base with a focus on asset light logistics and transportation solutions.

• Serve as a specialist for sector solutions, including logistics outsourcing, freight forwarding, and logistics services.

• Play a leadership role in helping grow the Americas transportation sector business with a focus on the largest 25 aviation, integrated logistics, truck, ocean, rail and shipping clients.

• Play a leadership role in helping grow the EY Transportation sector business.

• Define the objective and scope of strategy engagements and client deliverables in consultation with the partner.

• Lead teams in the execution of strategy and operations consulting engagements for the Transportation and adjacent industries.

• Develop business strategies using tools such as market analysis, customer research, macroeconomic forecasting, and portfolio optimization.

• Drive business development activities in key sectors and internally across the broader EY organization.

• Manage, develop, and mentor junior team members at the Associate, Senior Associate, Consultant, and Manager levels.

• Develop and maintain relationships with clients.

To qualify for the role, you must have

• A bachelor’s degree with outstanding academic performance and 8 years of related work experience; or a graduate degree and approximately 7 years of related work experience.

• Previous management consulting and logistics outsourcing experience required.

• Direct experience and expert knowledge of the transportation and logistics sector, including leading practices, innovation, and trends.

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams on complex assignments and develop individual team members.

• Strong quantitative skills to supervise data analysis, interpret output and generate insights.

• Ability to make detailed assessments of industry, products, markets, competitors and customers to identify risks and opportunities.

• Proficient in the English language, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, in a professional environment.

• Willingness and ability to travel when necessary

Ideally, you’ll also have

• An MBA with 3 to 6 years of post-graduate-school experience in a consulting, operating or investment banking role, with a particular focus on client advisory or strategic planning within a professional services environment.

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams on complex assignments and develop individual team members.
