What you’ll do:
Eaton’s Enterprise Engineering Centers of Excellence is seeking a Software Manager for our Embedded & Edge Software CoE.
Primary Function:
This position will lead a team of engineers to specify, design, develop embedded software solutions for Embedded Software and Controls Execution programs in alignment with industry specific regulations/standards.
The selected candidate will direct, develop, and implement strategic and tactical plans for execution of Software programs for a given business group related to sustaining engineering, new product development and research projects. The selected candidate will Serves as a Manager in embedded software, Autosar, BSW/MCAL configuration and base software development. This role will be responsible for contribution to prioritization of tasks of self and others. You will review embedded software requirements, contribute to the design of software architecture, and produce algorithm solutions, define Validation & Verification strategy; as well as the overall V-cycle process to confirm that system and functional requirements are met. You will be responsible for working with team members and engineering managers to estimate development, resources, and timing to achieve the desired results. You will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers. You will work with and provide technical directions to Eaton engineering centers globally. Involved in a wide variety of projects, conduct feasibility studies ensuring that objectives and program timings are met. Provide technical support and interface to system, hardware, and other departments.
The selected candidate will lead and direct development of a global team of approximately 10-15 Software engineers directly and indirectly in the U.S., Europe and India and will be responsible for driving common processes, design standards, tools, and technical expertise across the organization. This position is also responsible for interfacing with group-level businesses and system engineering to determine product strategies and roadmaps as it related to electrical or electronics products.
Essential Functions:
A. Lead, mentor and coach a global team of Software engineering professionals in core Software technology development
B. Responsible for capacity planning, resource management, and project staffing to meet external and internal customer deliverables and expectations for various projects, including the use of global and external resources.
C. Provides mentoring to less experienced engineers, and leads efforts to build the organizational capability of the team as it relates to the various core software design disciplines.
D. Drive common and robust development standards, tools, and processes with a focus on continuous improvement/design efficiency initiatives.
E. Work in a matrixed environment with Regional CoE Management.
F. Lead external partners and internal engineering resources on the integration work between ECU device drivers, controls model interface points, service tool drivers and other intelligent embedded systems.
G. Interface with product engineering teams, suppliers, customers, and external consultants/contractors
H. Contribute to definition of global Software strategy and roadmap.
I. Manage multiple sites and activity center budgets throughout the follow-on period of performance and deliver profit plan forecast and other financial expectations.
J. Support product team with project planning and drive for predictive performance for Software and Control programs and technology development activities utilizing tools and processes.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
– Bachelor degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or relevant degree.
– Minimum of 7 years’ experience C/C++ as well as the software development lifecycle.
– Previous Leadership managing an embedded software engineering development team.
– This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), have been granted Political Asylum, or Refugee.
– Candidates currently residing or willing to relocate within 50 miles of Southfield Michigan. International relocation/sponsorship is not available for this role.
* This Hybrid role must report on-site in Southfield, Michigan Tuesday – Thursday. Remote work allowed on Friday and Monday. Full remote is not an option.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
– Experience in developing embedded sw for inverters, OBC and/or DCDC a plus.
– Experience with Functional Safety ISO26262 part 6 on software requirement and process
– Knowledge of vehicle communication protocol Ethernet, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, V2G… etc a plus
– Working knowledge of OEM or Tier1 development process
– Working experience in global team environment a plus
– Working experience with IBM JAZZ a plus
– The ideal candidate would have experience in, or knowledge of automotive drivetrain/powertrain systems and components.
– Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status.
– Experience with a variety of CPU architectures and low-level driver for microcontroller peripheral interfaces such as SPI, I2C, USB, ADC, I/O… etc
– Ability to integrate software with target hardware in a lab environment.
– Experience with Multi-core, Pre-emptive Real-Time Operating Systems
– System level troubleshooting and associated lab experience
– Working experience with AutoSAR and its configuration tools, ISO26262, vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet… etc)
– Working experience with debugger/trace and Vector/ETAS tools
– Excellent English verbal/written communication and teamwork skills.
