Job Duties:
This is an open employment posting for a University Community School Classroom Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The College of Education will screen applications regularly in order to fill vacancies which may occur during the school year. Classroom Teacher positions are eleven-month, full-time, EHRA Non-Faculty positions in the College of Education and report to the ECU Community School Principal.
The College of Education is currently seeking an individual to serve as a University Community School Teacher to serve in a classroom within the East Carolina University Community School. The position is an eleven-month, full-time, EHRA non faculty position in the College of Education. Teachers at the Community School report to the ECU Community School Principal.
As an educator within the East Carolina University School, the teacher will cultivate a culture of innovation that supports effective instructional practices/strategies to promote student academic and personal success for all students in the school. The Teacher will work collaboratively with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction to achieve the mission of the school. The teacher will work collaboratively with the ECU Community School Principal and university faculty/staff to support the successful social-emotional, physical, and academic development of the students within the community school.

Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with a current professional North Carolina Teaching License in elementary (K-6) or related field; excellent oral and written communication skills; and evidence of skill working with at risk student populations. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Organizational Unit Overview:
The East Carolina University Community School involves cross campus collaboration to provide the scholars a spectrum of support and services to comprehensively address their academic, social-emotional, physical, and family/community needs. The school will include two classes per grade level for kindergarten through 4th grade and one fifth grade class. The school will continue to expand by adding an additional fifth grade class during the 2023-2024 school year. The ultimate goal is to add a full middle level component by the 2026-2027 school year. The Community School involves an integrated partnership with Pitt County Schools and will be housed within a local elementary school.
