About Discovery Sea Kayaks
DSK is a small sea kayak tour company based in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. We started the company as a small group of individuals passionate about paddling and sharing the outdoor experience with others. As time has passed we have grown and have made a decision to keep our staff small and adhere to our small company roots. We hire a few talented outgoing individuals with diverse backgrounds and provide them with the proper training to become the best in the industry.

Current First Aid and CPR certificate (Must have before you arrive for training)
Valid drivers license
Positive attitude and desire to learn
Hard-working and flexible
Must be physically fit and able to lift at least 50lbs overhead

Off-the-water duties include pack-up and clean-up at “the yard” where equipment is staged, basic gear maintenance, and time at our downtown storefront location.
Adhere to all laws and guidelines regarding behavior around wildlife on the water.
For the 2023 season, we are looking for several guides that can operate our 2 and 3-Day Kayak Tours.
Season: May through early October
Training: (We plan to have everyone on staff training around the first week of May)
We are known for providing the most extensive training program on the island. We perform our training sessions in the areas where guides will be paddling, not in inland lakes. All guides are provided with dry suits, paddle equipment, and safety gear. Before leading kayak tours all guides will learn all skills necessary to competently operate tours to Discovery standards. Prospective guides can expect training to be rigorous and rewarding. Guides will also learn about local wildlife, history, etc. in order to provide a cohesive and informative tour. The final step of our guide training involves a “shadow” period in which prospective guides first tag along on seasoned guides tours. Next, they will lead a tour and be shadowed by one of our seasoned guides to ensure they are ready to guide on their own.
