I. Summary
The Meter Technician I provides limited assistance to journeyman Meter Technicians engaged in the performance of various field duties in support of customer services, i.e., field testing and repair of meters 3” and larger, obtaining reads from vault meters following confined space entry procedures, performing bench test of Authority meters, and recording results in E-CIS.

Education / Experience & Other Minimum Qualifications Required

The minimum qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability necessary for an individual to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable amounts of training are provided.
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and two (2) years of experience in operation and maintenance of meter test benches, maintaining and issuing inventory items, and testing meters in accordance with AWWA standards.
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License and a DC Water Vehicle Endorsement.
Skill in basic data entry and in using hand held computers. Skill in categorizing, organizing, and recognizing all meter parts for a variety of meter types and sizes. Basic mathematical skills.
Ability to assist with the testing and installation of meters. Ability to operate sand blaster and drill press. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to crawl and work in tight, unlit and unfinished spaces. Ability read maps.
