The Section of General Surgery at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is seeking an experiencedPhysician Assistant – to join an established and collaborative group on the Acute Care Surgery team.
The Physician Assistant will be dedicated to inpatient care on the Acute Care Surgery service, which is comprised of trauma, critical care and emergency general surgery patients. They will work collaboratively with a team of advanced practitioners dedicated to the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery service. As such, the advanced practitioner will have a strong interest in the care of injured, critical and acutely ill general surgical patients.
The Physician Assistant will report to a designee of the Chief of the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery, who will be responsible for the clinical and general oversight of the position. The Practice Manager of the section of General Surgery will oversee administrative issues. The designated Supervising Physician will evaluate the practitioner’s clinical skills and overall competency as part of his or her annual performance review with input from the Practice Manger, and members of the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery.
The Physician Assistant will be expected to work as a full-time employee and work three 12 hour day shifts, 7am to 7pm. Hours may vary, and will be determined by the needs of the service and the Supervising Physician.
This position is grounded in the multidisciplinary team approach to management of patients on the floor and step-down units. The Trauma & Acute Care Surgery practitioner works closely and continuously with rehab services, case management, nursing, consulting services, general surgery residents, and attending physicians.
The Physician Assistant must maintain a patient and family centered focus through the hospital course and in consideration of the patient’s reintegration into their home setting. This makes the advanced practitioner role one heavily focused on management of complex social situations and planning for safe, successful hospital discharge.
