Position Summary :
To transport patients safely throughout the Medical Center
Performs duties in support of the Medical Center mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner
Accountabilities / Criteria
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Interpret cardiac rhythms, including slow, fast, and abnormal heart rhythms on the transport cardiac
monitoring equipment
Critically analyze a patient situation and appropriately respond within the scope of practice
Accountabilities / Criteria
Moving stable cardiac patient (Handoff) RN to RN in-between studies Moving a stable
rhythm patient that has normal heart rate and rhythm back to the patients baseline
Transports patients by stretcher and wheelchair between their rooms and other service areas
of the Medical Center
Assists nursing personnel (Passport) to prepare patients for transports, including moving
and positioning patients
Inspects stretchers and wheelchairs for readiness and cleanliness before and after patient
transport (assigned stretcher)
Participates in the training of new personnel
Willing and readily, assist all internal and external customers as needed, looking beyond
individual scope of service
Interacts with co-workers, Medical Center staff and supervisors in a courteous, professional and
service oriented manner Communicates in a positive, helpful and friendly manner at all times,
using appropriate body language, eye contact and tone of voice Maintains constructive
relationships at all times
Signing in and out patients
Speaks on the telephone in a courteous and professional manner
Recognizes and performs task to be completed and / or services to be provided
Participates in quality monitoring activities
Attends staff meetings and weekly huddles
Accountabilities / Criteria
Demonstrates the correct use of patient transport equipment (oxygen tanks, wheel chairs,
stretchers, etc)
Completes assignments in a timely manner(standard move time)
Responds appropriately to emergency situations, including Rapid Response (In-patient)
when indicated
Obtain and maintain current BLS certification
Indicates the essential functions of this position

Job Requirements
Education and Training :
High school graduation or equivalent
Successfully complete and pass a two-day transport telemetry course that includes classroom and skill validation (Individuals with EMS background may test out)
Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements :
Moderate physical effort : lift / carry up to – lbs
Mostly standing / walking
Occasional kneeling / crouching
Frequent reaching
Frequently moves / lifts equipment / supplies
Manual dexterity
Occasional stooping / bending
Frequently handles / lifts / pushes patients
Visual acuity of / in at least one eye (with / without correction)
Working Conditions :
Chemicals, cleaning agents, Infections / contagious diseases, Emergencies / crisis situations
Blood Borne Pathogen Risk :
Category II Tasks involve no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissues, but may at times
have unplanned exposure
