Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in secretarial science or business practices, and three (3) years of experience in administrative or clerical work, including experience in office management; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Requires considerable knowledge of business English and modern office procedures and equipment.
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to analyze and evaluate procedures and work methods, and to exercise appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and work methods.
Thorough knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher components.
Experience with governmental budgeting and grants application management desired.
Supplemental Information Requires acceptable criminal and child protective services background checks.
Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with an acceptable driving record.
Requires an initial physical examination to include screening for tuberculosis, and periodic re- examinations to ensure the incumbent poses no significant health risk to the participants in the Head Start Program.
This position requires an on-call status in emergency situations such as hurricanes, and may be assigned to work in emergency shelters, or other designated areas as directed by the Emergency Operations Center.
Physical Demands Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines including computers, typewriters, calculators, copiers, facsimile machines, etc. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking, bending, stooping, or standing for periods of time. Gripping occurs when collating materials and using office equipment. There is some some lifting of packages weighing between 10 and 30 pounds. At times, it may require occasional running and crawling while interacting with children and it may be necessary to lift, handle, or carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds.
