Position Summary
The primary function of the Logistics Analyst – Transportation Management System (TMS) is to support in the coordination and management of shipments. This includes the collection and input of shipment data, tracking and tracing, inputting changes and updates, communicating with internal customers and strategic partners, and maintaining a thorough knowledge of the transportation management system (TMS).
Responsibilities
Analyze rail and/or truck data on a daily basis and monitor inbound shipments. Work within our Transportation Management System (TMS) to manage shipment delays and all network service-related issues
Implements solutions to operational and service issues with rail, truckload and warehouse partners. Assists in the identification of customer issues and resolves them quickly. Takes a proactive approach to monitoring shipments throughout the network to track on time performance.
Facilitates railcar and/or truck billing through data collection and input. Ensures timely payment of invoices. Tracks accessorial charges for rail car and truck shipments as required.
Assists in analyzing distribution network and performing optimization studies, while recommending changes that will reduce cost and improve service.
Assists in the development of continuous process improvement and high-quality service. In conjunction with Transportation Manager, develops, implements, and tracks on-time delivery metrics and KPI’s. Contributes to new KPI development as needed.
Cross-trains with other department personnel as necessary. Works closely with other Supply Chain departments to ensure shipments are moving properly.
Assists other departments with claims process and loss mitigation associated with transportation issues such as derailments.
Monitors and troubleshoots direct truck shipments into receiving DC’s as well as transfer moves. Responsible for negotiating spot freight rates, dispatching out-of-network truck shipments, and assisting with coordination of dray deliveries when/if applicable.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including but not limited to special projects and supplier / vendor presentations.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor’s degree, logistics degree preferred, or two years of equivalent work experience is required. Logistics knowledge of truckload and rail transportation is required.
Must have excellent quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical skills into high-level analysis.
Proficiency within the Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel) is required. ERP/TMS experience is desirable (SAP preferred). Must be comfortable working with computers and can learn new software.
Requires excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well across all levels of the organization. Must have excellent customer service skills with the ability to work with both internal and external customers. Must be able to make decisions independently and recommend viable solutions to various problems and issues.
Must have the ability to handle a heavy workload and be able to work under pressure while handling frequent changes in direction, without losing focus. Must be willing to put in whatever time is necessary to complete a job.
Must be willing and able to travel on occasion as needed.
Must be willing and able to learn and acquire new skills and abilities.
