Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Music Education (with an emphasis in
instrumental music) to coordinate our music education graduate program and teach in the music and education departments starting August
2024.
Minimum qualifications: the successful candidate will have at least 5 years of K-12 teaching experience, a
doctorate in Music Education (ABD considered), and demonstrated eagerness and ability to recruit and work with graduate students.
Preferred qualifications: completed doctorate, successful college teaching experience, prior leadership in a graduate
program.
This position represents an expansion of our music education faculty, joining a team of colleagues to nurture undergraduate
and graduate music education students. Primary responsibilities include coordinating our Master of Music program in music education
(including recruiting and advising), teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in music education, and teaching one course in the
education department, with possible additional duties in alignment with the candidate’s interests and expertise, such as ensemble
conducting, studio teaching, or leading experiences in global music or music production. The department is especially interested in
candidates who can help broaden our current offerings.
The committee seeks candidates whose mindset and values are congruent with a
liberal arts approach to teaching and learning and who will contribute to redefining music education for the 21st Century. In support of the
College’s ambitious goals for diversity and inclusion, the Music Department is especially interested in applicants who will contribute
to the development of an increasingly diverse campus community, have experience working effectively with diversified populations, and are
responding to the changing demands on emerging music educators and professionals. The successful candidate will aspire to be part of a
community that affirms an abundance of identities, experiences, and perspectives to imagine, examine, and implement possibilities for
individual and communal thriving, both inside and outside of the Music Department. Applicants from underrepresented groups are strongly
encouraged to apply.
Concordia College is NASM accredited, and the Music Department is the largest single department on campus, with
40 faculty and more than 1/4 of all undergraduates participating in vocal and instrumental lessons, ensembles, and music courses. The
department maintains an excellent reputation throughout the region, with over 150 undergraduates majoring in music (music education,
composition, or performance), many of whom pursue careers in K-12 teaching, while others pursue graduate school and/or careers in performing
or creative activity. The employment rate for music education graduates pursuing positions in the field is extremely high, and many
graduates go on to achieve graduate degrees at leading national institutions.
Launched in 2022, our new Master of Music in Music
Education offers working educators the opportunity to earn a graduate degree while staying fully employed, earning the majority of credits
in two summers with some online coursework and thesis research/writing during the school year. Concordia’s growing graduate program
also includes degree offerings in Nutrition and Dietetics, World Languages, Education, and Management Science.
Concordia College is a
private, liberal arts institution of approximately 150 faculty and 2,000 total students (undergraduate and graduate). Affiliated with the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Concordia prepares students to become responsible leaders who influence the affairs of our global
society for the greater good. The Fargo (ND)/Moorhead (MN) region is a growing metropolitan area of approximately 250,000 residents that is
consistently ranked among the nation’s most livable cities. Fargo-Moorhead’s thriving cultural scene is home to a variety of
professional arts organizations, including opera, ballet and theatre companies, a professional symphony orchestra, community ensembles
(bands, orchestras, and choirs), film festivals, art museums and galleries, and both professional and collegiate athletic teams.
