The Education Department at Colby
College invites applications for a .8 FTE Coordinator of Teacher Education and non-tenure track continuing faculty position, beginning
September 1, 2023. We seek candidates to oversee our undergraduate teacher certification program, including teaching secondary curriculum
and methods, and coordinate the department’s collaborations with local schools and community partners. The ideal candidate would also be
able to teach a course on special education, inclusive learning environments, or educational technology, and would collaborate with
department faculty to engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds. We especially
encourage applicants from underrepresented groups.
The Education Department consists of four faculty members committed to critical
youth development and promoting social justice in schools and society at large. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and
easily engaged in the classroom. We offer a major and minor in Educational Studies, and we offer Maine State Teacher Certification at the

Allocation of Effort
Coordinate all departmental field placements for
student teaching, practicum or internship experiences, and course requirements
Supervise student teachers during
semester-long teaching practicum
Ensure teaching candidates’ successful fulfillment of requirements for Maine State Teacher
Certification, including the timely preparation and submission of documents and professional portfolio completion and
defense
Sustain and strengthen collaborations with area schools and community organizations
Teaching
and advising undergraduates
Teach secondary curriculum and methods
Teach other courses in accordance
with experience/qualifications
Advise first-year undergraduates
Participate in departmental supports for
students such as portfolio and thesis defense committees
Qualifications:
Minimum
Qualifications
M.A. or M.Ed.
Prior K-12 teaching experience
Prior experience teaching
secondary methods and supervising student teachers
Demonstrated ability and interest in building partnerships with area
schools and community organizations
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to social justice in education, including
promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in special
education, teaching students with disabilities/special needs, and/or educational technology
College-level teaching
experience
Familiarity with the liberal arts context
