Cleveland-Cliffs Steel has an immediate opportunity for a Research Engineer in Middletown, Ohio.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Conduct metallurgical analyses using Research Laboratory equipment.
• Operate metallographic equipment and scanning microscopes, as well as other material evaluation instruments.
• Operate and maintain several analytical tools.
• Perform material analysis of carbon and specialty steel products specifically related to product development and customer and operations support.
• Develop new procedures and techniques for analysis involving metallography, scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffractometry, and EBSD microscopy, as well as other material evaluation techniques.
• Project support to engineering within the Research organization, particularly with product development for new and innovative products. May involve product development research.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related degree.
  • 3 years of experience as a materials engineer, metallurgical engineer, or graduate research assistant in either metallurgical or materials engineering field.
  • 2 years of experience with problem solving complex material issues using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy.
  • 2 years of experience with automated feature analysis software.
  • 2 years of experience with fractography and failure analysis.
  • 2 years experience with EDAX and Oxford software.
  • 2 years experience with image analysis software.
  • 2 years experience with optical metallography.

Or

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering or related degree.
  • 5 years of experience as a materials engineer, metallurgical engineer, or graduate research assistant in either metallurgical or materials engineering field.
  • 4 years of experience with problem solving complex material issues using scanning electron microscopy equipped with energy dispersive spectroscopy.
  • 4 years of experience with automated feature analysis software.
  • 4 years of experience with fractography and failure analysis.
  • 4 years experience with EDAX and Oxford software.
  • 4 years experience with image analysis software.
  • 4 years experience with optical metallography.
