About the Clark
The Clark is a leading cultural institution and actively seeks employees who are energized and motivated by its dual mission as an art museum and a center for research and higher education, dedicated to advancing and extending the public understanding of art. The Clark’s mission and its geographical location define three essential aspects of its character and identity: the quality of its art, the beauty of its pastoral setting, and the depth of its commitment to the generation of ideas. Clark employees enjoy the opportunity to live and work in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, a place of rich natural beauty, a dynamic environment defined by its deep cultural resources, and a region that is growing as both a center of innovation and a major tourist destination.
Position Description
Established in 1955, the Clark Art Institute is a unique organization, comprising both an art museum and collection as well as a dedicated research and academic center focused on the visual arts. Since its renovation eight years ago, the Clark has transformed its campus and enhanced its facilities, creating a state-of-the-art museum facility and research center with an international reputation for excellence and a deep commitment to its community. With a new five-year strategic plan focused on continued growth, community impact and art acquisition, the need for more strategic HR has become apparent. To support its five-year vision, the Institute is hiring a new Head of Human Resources. Reporting to Chief Financial Officer Robin Sher, you will serve as a member of the Directors Group and lead one additional team member.
As the Head of Human Resources, you will assess, expand and professionalize the existing HR strategy and programs. Expanding on the existing foundation, you will create a function that is more efficient, modernized and strategic. As you spearhead the overhaul of the HR function, initial areas of focus will include working with the Clark’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) advisory group to embed inclusion initiatives within policies, creating additional training and development programs and shaping a more engaged workforce.
The ideal candidate will be personally connected to the Clark’s three essential aspects of its character: art, ideas and nature. You are a highly professional, hands-on, influential leader who has a proven ability to build best-in-class HR programs and effective working relationships at all levels of a business. You should have specific experience developing DEIA initiatives and creating an engaging environment throughout the entire employee life cycle.
