Job Description:
The Education Department at Clark University invites applications for a full- time tenure-track Assistant Professor or a tenure-eligible Associate Professor with experience and expertise in community-engaged participatory research and who utilizes an antiracist framework in their scholarship. We seek a scholar who links their analysis of race and racism to structural/institutional frameworks combined with a deep commitment to liberatory praxis. While the approach could take many forms and address many areas of race/racism, we seek a scholar who examines structural challenges/solutions related to for example, racial diversity in the teaching force, the overrepresentation of Black/Latine youth in disciplinary practices, or racial inequities in funding, to name but a few examples.
In terms of teaching, tenure-line faculty at Clark University are expected to teach two courses each semester (only one in their first semester). This position will primarily contribute to the recently developed and fast-growing major/minor of Community, Youth, and Education Studies. This is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major housed in the Education Department and featuring courses from the departments of Education, Geography, International Development Community and Environment, Psychology and Sociology. The ideal candidate will be able to teach courses that support the core coursework in the program along with courses that serve as electives in the major/minor.
This successful candidate will join an Education Department that has just completed a strategic review resulting in the university approved plan to convert the department into a School of Education that will develop new graduate programs in educational leadership, school psychology, comparative education and more. We seek a scholar at the associate or advanced assistant level with a proven track-record of research success in community engaged scholarship focused on race and/or racism who can be successful in securing research funding and can build the scholarly reputation of the Department (and eventually School) of Education, particularly as it relates to racial justice and equity. Further, this scholarly approach will support the department’s strategic vision to become a space of antiracist leadership and scholarship at Clark and in partnering schools and communities.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have alignments in an area of synergy with the Center for Gender, Race, and Area Studies which houses Africana Studies, Latin American & Latinx Studies, Asian Studies, Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies, and more.
