As a Nurse you will assume responsibility and accountability for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient. You will promote the optimal health, well-being and safety of the patient through use of the nursing process and in accordance with patient care standards, guidelines and the State Nurse Practice Act, and demonstrate personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values.
The Surgical Floor 9 Department at Penrose Hospital is a 23-bed unit, where we care for general surgery patients with surgeries such as bowel resections, ostomy creations, urological surgeries, gyn surgeries and trauma patients. Caring for these patients builds a strong base of knowledge and skills for nurses that includes care of drains, wound vacs, central line and tube feedings. We manage patients’ pain with many different modalities. Discharge education begins when the patient is admitted to the unit. The nurses are focused on educating patients and families to help the patient with a successful recovery. The nursing team collaborates with the physicians in the patient’s Plan of Care. The nursing team on the 9th floor is supportive of each other on the floor in coordinating care and the team builds relationships personally. The skills and assessments acquired on this unit builds a strong resume if a nurse has goals to transition to critical care nursing.

$30.25 – $50.81 / hour
