General Purpose

The Assistant Designer works closely with the Designer so the vision of the brand can be executed from beginning to end. Supports the workflow of generating ideas, tracking samples, style review and fittings.

Main Responsibilities

Assist the designer for Carlisle in all aspects of developing the line:

• Creating new development sketches and technical flats using photoshop
• Select trim for garments; research and gather trim inspiration and materials for all styles, embroideries, or developments
• Keep detailed records on trim and belt choices, styles, developments
• Work closely with designer and local vendors to select and develop buttons/trim for each season
• Work with trim dept. on developing embroideries and selecting components for designer to utilize
• Responsible for distributing and maintaining seasonal color library for Carlisle.
• Maintain fabric and swatch library, specific to each season
• Attend all fittings, take notes and fill out trim spec requirements for all new garments
• Inform trim dept. of any new styles put into work, or of any changes to existing styles.

• Assist in preparing garments needed in the fitting, such as those needing buttons, correct belts, complete outfits, or recent overseas prototypes
• File and record the designer’s expenses from retail purchases.
• Attend weekly Line in Process meetings
• Work closely with overseas and local factories/sample rooms and production department to get prototypes in for meetings
• Correspond daily with overseas and local companies on trims and samples
• Responsible for racking up and preparing for monthly merchandising meetings. This involves preparing original and sample garments, gathering fabric and trim, inspirations, collecting prints and artworks, accessories, color standards, and organizing them according to the season’s line plan.
• Assist model in dressing for the preview meetings; assist designer in any way needed during the meetings, gathering necessary materials
• Assist production coordinator in prepping for EB meetings and dress models during EB presentations
• Work on special design projects as assigned
• Conduct design research on computer and print media

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion, or equivalent industry experience
• 2+ Years’ experience in a similar role
• Excellent interpersonal skills supporting a team environment
• CAD/Graphic Skills – proficient in Illustrator/Photoshop/inDesign/Flex PLM
• Strong illustration and flat sketching skills
• Excellent English communication skills – verbal and written
• Excellent time management/project skills
• Highly creative
• Strong planning and organizational skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
• Ability to recognize and react to changing work demands – add something along the lines of flexibility with working hours as needed – project based
• Comfortable and confident in making effective autonomous (and group) decisions in a timely manner
• Goal orientated: ability to stay focused on creating winning results
• Technical knowledge of fabric construction, finishes and techniques, patternmaking
• Knowledge of WFX is a plus
