Camp Pinnacle Looking for Trip Leader at Flat Rock, North Carolina Full Time

Position Purpose:

To further the mission of Camp Pinnacle by providing safe leadership for our adventure activities for campers ages 7-15 years. Activities include hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, climbing tower, water zip line, team building/group initiative games, and teaching the basics as needed and prior to going into the field. These activities are key to helping CP’s mission, our 5 R’s, skills for life and a great deal of fun in the outdoors.  Safety, safety, safety!

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Help plan and facilitate the training for cabin counselors in off-camp adventures including:
  • Leading a staff backpack trip during staff orientation
  • Teaching skills such as fire building, backcountry cooking, LNT principles, setting up and taking down a campsite, and other essential tasks that will help counselors support TLs on future off-camp adventures.
• Organize trip logistics, as assigned, through meal planning, pulling gear, planning appropriate routes and campsites, coordinating transportation, preparing campers, and completing paperwork such as trip logs and emergency evacuation plans.
• Assist in maintaining all gear, equipment, and vehicles including regular cleaning and inventory.
• Inspect facilities, equipment, and vehicles daily, report any problems to the Head Trip Leader, restock First Aid kits as needed, and help communicate any maintenance requests.
• Attend daily and weekly staff meetings and participate in evaluations at the end of each session.
• Support Cabin Counselors in their critical role to help ensure CP success.  Examples might include leading team building activities, assist in building a fire at one of our outposts, participating in an evening circle, covering a cabin during rest hour and other out of cabin staff opportunities.
• Teach or assist with activity during a regular activity day or camper choice day. Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
• Participate in camp activities, special events, and evening programs as time permits.
• Be aware of opportunities for camper and staff growth and progression for future summers.
• Willingness to enthusiastically help out in any way asked.
• Other duties as assigned

Essential Functions:

• Ability to communicate and work with children ages 7-15 and peers, and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
• Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
• Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards.
• Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
• Endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
• Ability to work long hours in the sun with little personal time and personal space.
