Basic Functions:
Under the direction of the Chair of the Education Department, the selected part-time faculty member is responsible for teaching ED301 (4 credits) – Foundations of Literacy. This is a four-credit hour course designed to examine the building blocks of literacy acquisition in elementary students. In ED301, pre-service teachers become proficient in the core components of literacy instruction, which consist of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehension. This course includes an exploration of instructional strategies, diagnostic assessments, and factors that contribute to literacy development as well as a 10-hour field experience requirement.
Responsibilities:
· Hold all class sessions according to the established schedule, dates, and times
· Develop and distribute a syllabus that is approved, and fulfills the course requirements.
· Select instructional materials such as textbooks and course-related materials.
· Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, grades, and attendance.
· Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, facilitating students in designing lessons, presentations, discussions, classroom field experiences, projects, and appropriate assessments.
· Assign and provide feedback for in- and out-of-class work; monitor student progress.
· Maintain a commitment to the preparation of culturally responsive, professional teachers.
· Perform related duties as assigned, including communicating with the department chair.
Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in education, and a Master’s degree and/or equivalent teaching experience in relevant content areas and/or grade levels
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching experience, demonstrated knowledge of instructional delivery, methods, and technology, knowledge of working with children, knowledge of subject area and grade level, knowledge of current teaching practices, theories, and principles, and knowledge of the Kansas State Standards. We seek candidates who can provide excellent classroom knowledge and pedagogy, and are positive models of leadership and professionalism in their teaching field relevant to P-12 grades.
