ASAP! Beautiful Bearskin Lodge has an unexpected job opening with housing available immediately for a person who is comfortable with outdoor tasks like mowing, trimming, and wood stacking; moving and preparing boats and canoes; lifting heavy things; and helping all of us with housekeeping when needed. The right person might also be called upon to occasionally help guests at the front desk when needed.
This is a fun job that requires a bit of muscle and a willingness to be helpful. Dependability, a great work ethic, good communication skills, and independent work habits. If you’re a person who makes a list and then powers through it, you’re our ideal employee. No room for time-blindness here. Your co-workers count on you to pull your weight.
We are a wilderness resort on the edge of canoe country, the BWCA Wilderness, in far northern Minnesota on the Gunflint Trail. We are 26 miles from the “coolest small town in America,” Grand Marais, a fun and thriving artsy Lake Superior community that is a major travel and moving destination these days. Bearskin is a contented place to work, and our employees often stay for years. Read all about our unique environment at Bearskin Employment Info, or on our profile here on CoolWorks.
Bearskin is a non-smoking, minimal alcohol, and drug-free environment. We have super healthy employees who spend their down-time running, biking, canoeing, and enjoying the outdoors. If you won’t spend your time-off enjoying nature, you’ll find this environment too isolating. Only apply if “outside” is part of your thing.
Current job openings:
Maintenance, outfitting, and outdoor groundskeeping: Fun position for an organized self-starter who likes to be outside, but also enjoys performing minor repairs. Takes care of the campground, mows the grass, helps guests with boats and canoes, sends out canoe trips, deals with outfitting gear, solves guest problems. This is the person who drive the fish gut bucket to it destination as bear food — if that makes you smile, you’re perfect for the job. This person also helps with weekend cabin cleaning (like we all do, it’s a weekend marathon) and may occasionally help with two short shifts at front desk. Open to seasonal or full-time employees.
More info:
Our ideal job applicant enjoys the outdoors and will be happy living far from shopping and cities. Our employees are detail-oriented, drama-free, and organized. They present well when they meet other people, they have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and they are very responsible. They have good references from previous employment. They love a healthy, outdoor lifestyle and they want to experience life on the Gunflint Trail. We know you’re the right person for the job if you’re out enjoying our area on your days off. There’s so much to do!
If you are a good worker and you want to be here, we can teach you the skills you need. If you already come with previous knowledge about front desk work, guest services, maintenance, or especially housekeeping, that’s even better!
You do need a car to be here. There is no uber, no lyft, no bus, no public transportation. Groceries are 26 miles away. A car is essential if you hope to eat.
