Job Title
AUTeach Master Teacher
Posting Number
P1138F
Job Description Summary
AUTeach is a streamlined teacher preparation program at Auburn University for science majors. The goals of the AUTeach Program are to attract and retain more students into teaching careers, and to graduate outstanding science teachers who are masters of their discipline, who know how to use technology to enhance learning, and who can understand and involve students in project-based inquiry.
AUTeach invites applications for a 10-month non-tenure track, Clinical Faculty position beginning August 2023. The position is a one-year appointment subject to annual review based on performance, need for services, and available funding. AUTeach seeks an enthusiastic candidate who is committed to teaching excellence, actively engaging with undergraduates, and able to teach undergraduate courses in the AUTeach program.
Master Teachers are the primary point of contact for undergraduate students in the AUTeach program. Master teachers manage field experiences and teach field-based courses. They observe and provide written and oral feedback to evaluate and help students improve their skills throughout the program. They maintain strong working relationships with our partner school districts.
Master teachers work with local school district teachers and administrators to ensure appropriate field placements and productive teaching experiences for AUTeach students.
Master teachers maintain an “open door” policy, making themselves available to students on demand (within reason).
Master teachers are active in program recruitment, help manage student internships, and participate in a variety of other student support activities, including tracking students and identifying and following up with any students in danger of not completing the program.
Master teachers are knowledgeable about what new teachers encounter and provide ongoing and just in time career support for AUTeach graduates, particularly during their first two years of induction into the profession.
The position will require travel locally and may require periodic travel to UT Austin (one trip per year). Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
