Atlas Air Looking for Avionics Software Configuration Engineer at Erlanger, KY  Full Time

Responsible for the Engineering data, instructions, documents, and technical support that ensures the Safety, Compliance, Airworthiness, and Reliability of Atlas Air aircraft and/or related test equipment and aircraft software components. Work responsibilities are within the following ATA chapter subjects: 22, 23, 31, 34, 45, and 46. Primary focus will be on ATA 45 and 46 with an emphasis on aircraft software and hardware integration including Aircraft Cybersecurity and Aircraft Software configuration management programs and components.

Assist Lead or Principal engineers with developing a comprehensive Cyber Security & Software Management Program which includes:
• In depth understanding of aircraft cybersecurity & software components and loading methods
• Critical understandingor prior experience loading software across multiple fleets or airframes (e.g., eEnabled / Non-eEnabled) aircraft such as commercial aircraft or UAS systems.
• Understanding of software configurations and the impact on User Modifiable Software (UMS) components
• General understanding of ARINC standards and applications
• Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars, RTCA documents, Federal Aviation Regulations, and ATA Spec 100 classifications
• Collaborate with Internal and External Customers to develop Atlas Air’s Regulatory Compliance for Aircraft Cybersecurity and Aircraft Software administration as well as create and validate applicable policy, processes and procedures.
• Represent Avionics Engineering in collaboration with IT Cybersecurity in engagements with FAA and manufacturers, clearly discussing program progress, newly developing issues, and describing resolutions.
• Support software integration of new and previously operated aircraft during Phase In / Phase Out activities, ensuring approved processes are followed and Operational Specifications are developed and added or removed as needed.
• Liaise with manufacturers, maintenance representatives, Maintenance Repair Organizations (MROs) facilities, outside engineering departments, regulatory personnel, and other agencies to achieve objectives.
• Ensure understanding of the criticality of maintaining a constant vigilance of Aircraft Cybersecurity Regulatory Compliance.
• Evaluate Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), Notices of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRMs), Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Letters (SLs), and other notifications of in-service issues.
• Follow industry standards for best practices and provide guidance on Aviation Cybersecurity implementation, monitoring, compliance, assessments, and risk mitigation / providing resolution and strategies to minimize impact to operations.
• Provide continuous improvement and progress in developing, monitoring, and maintaining best practices for Regulatory Compliance of Aircraft Cybersecurity and Aircraft Software administration.
• Work with Atlas Air IT Cybersecurity Team to ensure Aircraft Security is at the highest achievable levels to ensure continuity of Business Operations.
• Organize, develop, and provide the relevant necessary Avionics Engineering documentation (Engineering Orders, Test Reports, Fleet Campaign Directives, Action Plans, Action Requests, Operational Manual updates etc. that are required to implement aircraft Avionics systems modifications and facilitate repairs within the allocated time schedule and budget allowance.
• Establish and maintain aircraft software component repair and build specifications to enhance operational commitments in accordance with Budgetary and Regulatory requirements.
• Forecast and report any ongoing project status including budgets, quality issues, EO effectiveness, and various other performance metrics that guide decision making.
• Provide technical support to Tech Ops, Ground Operations, Flight Operations, and other Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings personnel.
• Coordinate with maintenance and engineering staff members to provide on call 24/7 Cybersecurity and Aircraft Software loading technical support which may require working in a remote environment.
• Provide other AOG coverage as required by the Lead Engineer or Avionics Engineering Manager including occasional nights and weekends and on-call as required to support the operation (one weekend day every 5-6 weeks).
• Attend and collaborate on other avionics engineering assignments and meetings as required in support of the avionics engineering department to assist the overall operation.
• Any other responsibilities assigned by the Lead Engineer or Manager of Avionics Engineering.

• S. Engineering/Technical Engineering Degree (EE or AE) or equivalent airline and/or IT Cyber Security experience
• 5-10 years Airline/Aircraft Avionics Engineering or equivalent avionics related technical experience
• Strong technical skills and knowledge of aircraft avionics systems and components is desired
• Customer service oriented attitude with the resilience to overcome projects hurdles and obstacles
• Fundamental understanding of basic IT architecture, cybersecurity and system networking
• Ability to develop documentation including requirements, test plans, engineering orders, action plans, event reports
• Ability and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally for short durations with short notice.
• Ability to configure, manage, and administrate tasks in an Aircraft Software environment is highly desired

Other Preferred Qualifications:

• Transport category aircraft avionics systems experience (i.e., 777, 747-8, 747-400, 737-800, 767 or other UAS platform)
• Aircraft modification and design experience or certification experience
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant license
