Position Summary
The Education Coordinator is responsible for the operation of contract and open enrollment programs for the Success Through Education Program (STEP) at the Ordnance Road Correction Center (ORCC) on-site at Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities (AACDDF) and Jennifer Road Detention Center (JRDC). The Coordinator is responsible for scheduling, staffing assigned classes, ensuring curriculum quality and hiring and supervising staff. This includes assisting the Director, Correctional and Continuing Education in developing, implementing and evaluating instructional offerings and staff performance.
This position reports to the Director, Correctional & Continuing Education.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COLLABORATION: As a liaison with ORCC assist the Director COR & Continuing Education to meet the deliverables in the agreed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Agreement. Recognize the special authority of Correctional Centers and work in cooperation with the policies & procedures that govern this unique process and train subordinate educational staff to do the same. Develop and maintain a strong relationship with all clients associated with AACDDF
ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT: Coordinate the scheduling of the Success Through Education Program (STEP) courses for the fiscal year to meet the needs of the contract and the correction population. Collect, organize and assist with analysis of students’ test data and make appropriate academic assessments. Assess potential students and make recommendations to ORCC for student selection and placement.
CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION: Develop and maintain the STEP Curriculum. Ensure that all program syllabi, lesson plans & individual learning plans are in sequence with the approved curriculum. Meet with staff regularly to disseminate information to staff and share guidelines for handling internal concerns. Maintain the Person Vue Testing Center (PVTC) at ORCC. Coordinate the General Development Education (GED) Testing schedule at ORCC and JRDC
SUPERVISION: Coordinate the hiring, training and evaluation of the Educational Staff through AACC & the AACDDF Training Departments to ensure all educational staff meet their mandatory and professional training. Organize and coordinate the assignment of instructors and staff. Provide supervision and support to contract instructors and arrange substitute instructors (when necessary). Conduct classroom observation as often as necessary to maintain the standards required by the correctional facility and college alike.
REPORTING: Coordinate and update required documents and reports (as needed or directed). Including AACDDF “Guide to Programs and Services”, ORCC “Police & Procedure 15.2” (Education Program), the Inmate Handbook, Memorandum of Understanding Agreement and other required charts and reports.
OTHER DUTIES: As assigned by the Director, Assistant Dean and/or Dean.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Minimum two years experience in teaching and/or administering adult education or youth education programs.
Minimum of one year of experience teaching and/or administering programs in a correctional setting.
One year supervisory experience.
Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office, as well as excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse, multicultural populations and ability to work effectively and tactfully with students, instructors, staff, community representatives, government agencies and the public.
