Job Description
Purpose
Responsible for locating raw materials in warehouse bin and s-loc locations, retrieving and delivering this material to the appropriate machine center, assist in putting away inbound raw materials in warehouse, unload/loading trucks, retrieving work in process rolls, handling recycle and scrap materials, offloading rewinder rolls, palletizing, banding, stretch wrapping. Powered Industrial Trucks, also known as a forklift will be used. A sit-down and stand up forklift will be the primary equipment used by a material handler.
Duties
General:
Practices safety, at all times, in compliance with company safety mission and philosophy. Awareness of, and adherence to, all Corporate and Site Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures, including Food Safety
Adhere to Good Manufacturing and Prerequisite Program requirements to ensure safe food packaging.
Comply with all 5S, Cleaning, Lubrication, Inspection & Tightening (CILT) requirements.
Adheres to Amcor core values and actively contributes to a high-performance culture.
Material Handler specific The stand-up and sit-down forklift material handlers are to work in conjunction with each other. While each person will have primary responsibilities for the shift based on the machine being operated, it is the material-handlers responsibility to work with each other and the shipping/receiving department to make sure materials are moved safely, timely, and accurately. These primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Retrieving and delivering materials to the machine centers in compliance to the machine schedule. All handling units must be scanned to the correct location. Each machine center that is operating should always have a minimum of three (3) rolls staged and scanned to the machine center at all times.
Deliver print and/or primary stock to the machine center. The handling units are to be placed on roll cradles.
Deliver raw sealant to machines and stage in proper location.
Materials from prior orders (return to stock butt rolls) should be used first in an effort to keep inventory from aging.
Larger production runs may have sealant in a trailer in a dock door. The machine assistant can help, but ultimately is not responsible for unloading the material from the trailer.
If help is needed, the employee requesting the help is to see their direct supervisor to determine how much help, if any, can be given. The finishing supervisor and the logistics manager will discuss and determine what the correct action is for the current situation. During C and D shifts, the finishing supervisor will make the decision.
Shorter production runs will most likely have sealant rolls in the raw material racking. It is the material-handler’s responsibility to get the material. The materials need to be staged and scanned to the machine center.
Unpacking the sealant rolls from the pallets and headboards, along with loading the sealant rolls onto carts is to be considered a shared responsibility between the machine assistant and the material handlers. Material handlers are the primary owner of this task, however should continue to work in partnership with the machine assistants to ensure the task is completed.
Return raw materials to inventory locations from designated “return” areas following guidelines and procedures.
Retrieve WIP completed rolls from machine centers and deliver to designated warehouse locations.
Laminated rolls are to be hung to cure within 45-60 minutes of the roll coming off the machine.
Handles boxes of resin, recyclable materials, and scrap.
Recyclable materials shall be defined as header boards, core plug, and clips or other supplies that can be reused at any Amcor plant.
Works with shipping/receiving and in conjunction with lamination to make sure all adhesives are moved into the adhesive room within sixty (60) minutes of the material being received into the plant. Sixty minutes is the time allotted by the DNR to remain in compliance.
Pulls materials dispositioned to be scrapped from racks and staged with other materials to be scrapped.
Prepares and maintains accurate paperwork to be forwarded to inventory control for inventory transactions.
Assists in put-away of inbound raw materials and finished goods in proper warehouse locations.
Cross-training in other departments and on other machines as required by demand.
All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
Basic knowledge of computers; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with SAP preferred.
This individual must possess good communication skills and be able to work accurately. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to read a standard or metric ruler and use a chart to convert between the two. Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
When deemed necessary by a manager or a night supervisor, the last six hours of each night shift, the material handler operating the stand-up forklift, is to assist with wrapping of pallets. This includes operating the stretch wrapper, ensuring proper labeling of the finished pallets, inspecting the finished pallet for safe transportation, and putting the finish goods pallet away in the finished goods racking. The proper RF scan movements must also be performed accurately.
