The Nurse Practitioner is a nurse, who through clinical experience and study, has gained expertise in a specific specialty area of nursing. The NP demonstrates the advanced knowledge, skills and credentialing required to function in advanced practice and expanded specialty nursing.

Duties and
Responsibilities include:
• The NP has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the day to day implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care.
• Promotes creativity and innovation problem solving strategies to provide better ways to provide patient care.
• Works in collaboration with the attending physician, primary nurse and other health care providers to provide family centered care through implementation and evaluation of the plan of care, psychosocial support and education of the patient/family, and case management.
• Responsible and accountable for the development and application of specialty practice standards, and research to enhance the quality of care to the patient and the patient’s family.
Education, Licensure, and Certification
Required:
• Current license to practice professional nurse in the State of New York
• Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of New York
• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program required, Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program within specialty area
