Gardner Cryogenics (a department of Air Products and Chemicals, Inc.), a leading manufacturer of cryogenic containers for transport and storage of liquid helium and hydrogen, has an immediate opening for a Material Distribution/Inventory Supervisor at its Bethlehem, PA manufacturing facility.
This position ensures around the clock availability of materials by coordinating the activities and supervising the personnel concerned with the receipt, storage, issuance, movement, control and shipping of materials that flow through the Gardner Manufacturing facilities. This position will be responsible for ensuring the most effective and efficient use of current technologies, MRP systems and Lean Management Initiatives to ensure a smooth supply chain.
Principal Responsibilities to be successful in this role include:
Coordinate and lead all activities of Shipping/Receiving. Execute the efficient issuance (picking) of materials to the manufacturing floor and vendors.
Maintain sound records of materials acquisition, possession, and usage to satisfy accounting and quality control requirements for audit ability across all Gardner facilities.
Identify and utilize excess materials or dispose of them for salvage value. Participate in the development of new procedures to employ departmental resources more effectively.
Contribute to the development and control of the departmental budget to help ensure economical department operation.
Manage, train, develop and direct the employees working within the stockroom and ensure their activity effectively supports the performance standards and goals of the Material Control and Distribution Department. Coordinate the movement of materials between Gardner and vendor facilities. Execute and lead the Basic Safety Process (BSP) for the Stockroom personnel.
Manage the maintenance and repair of Gardner owned trucks/trailers. Administratively responsible for the stockroom personnel, including the CDL drivers. Assure compliance to all DOT driver requirements. Lead initiatives to identify and resolve any identified inventory and parts issues by collaborating with all other applicable functions. Consistently executing and reconciling cycle counts and identify root cause and recommend corrective actions to inaccuracies.
Implementation of inventory management strategies – both new, and improvement to existing.
Timely charging off the disposal of obsolete material and excess inventory as a result of cycle counting.
Ensuring the security, record accuracy, physical integrity, proper identification, and traceability of stored materials. Ordering of non-SAP parts.
Procurement of miscellaneous items via AP Direct Buyer or Procurement Card. Ensure expeditious and accurate receipt, storage, issuance, movement, and shipment of materials at Gardner facilities. Ensuring all activities are performed in a safe manner and providing a leadership role in safety. Be in full compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
Collect and monitor measures of departmental improvement including stock-outs, shortages, inventory turns and reductions and cycle count accuracy.
Critical Competencies:
• Strong experience in managing execution of material/inventory in SAP.
• Experience with stockroom and material handling responsibilities in a manufacturing facility.
• Strong project management and planning skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with internal and external customers.

• Ability to bring teams together to resolve issues and achieve targets and goals.
• Experience with commodities/services such as structural parts, fabricated assemblies, fittings, gauges, piping and tubing, raw structural shapes, hardware, valves, machined parts is strongly desired.
• Sense of ownership and urgency.
• Self-disciplined and self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with minimal direction.
• Demonstrate prioritization, planning, and follow-up skills in a multi-tasking environment.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
The incumbent must have excellent communication skills and be a standout colleague. A thorough understanding of material flow and procedures necessary for proper receipt, identification, storage, and issuance of material is required.
Job Requirements:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Meeting the above identified responsibilities and competencies.
• A minimum of three years of experience in materials management, MRP Systems, production and inventory control, or related field is required with experience in the operation/supervision of cranes and mobile material handling equipment.
• Experience with SAP is required with knowledge and demonstration of transactions and codes to execute material/inventory handling responsibilities
• Previous supervisory/management experience in related field is preferred.
• Technical aptitude and a four-year technical or business degree is preferred.
