The Endoscopy Tech is responsible for assisting the Registered Nurse and Physician in the performance of duties and procedures for endoscopy. Adheres to policy and procedure for reprocessing scopes and the manufacturer¿s recommendations.
The Endoscopy Tech will:
1. provide and maintain a safe environment for the patient by complying with standards set forth by the SGNA and by the Policies of HUMC
2. be responsible for personal continuing education
3. be knowledgeable about professional and practice issues related to GI
4. comply with ethical, professional and legal standard
5. scope cleaning and assisting in procedures

Responsibilities
1. Greets patients, checks for proper ID on bracelet and papers, orients patient to unit, and takes and records vital signs.
2. Participates in the plan of care for the patient in the Endoscopy Unit as directed by the RN.
3. Observes and reports all unusual conditions, reactions and occurrences to the nurse in charge.
4. Orders food from Dietary when necessary and assists patients with meals as needed.
5. Helps stock nutrition station at nurse¿s station and in waiting room.
6. Transfers patients to x-ray or other departments when necessary for procedure.
7. Transfers patients and equipment using proper body mechanics.
8. Refers all information or questions from patients and/or families to RN
9. Answers phones and responds promptly to requests using effective customer service skills.
10. Checks linen and CSR carts daily to insure that they have been stocked properly.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Graduate of approved Nurses Assistant Program.
3. 2-3 years experience a nursing assistant or technician.
