The Commercial Underwriting Assistant supports Underwriting in the placement and retention of risks for insurance that meet the Company’s established underwriting guidelines. In addition, they maintain commercial business written to ensure profitability and growth in accordance with corporate goals. Upholds consistent, professional standards of customer service.
Position Location & Work Format
This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position, typically working Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Employees must be able to work at our Hastings, Michigan corporate headquarters, either on a daily basis or in a “hybrid” arrangement of both on-site and remote-based work.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
Assists in the review, approval, underwriting, and processing of applications that are acceptable in relation to underwriting guidelines and within their underwriting authority.
Processes changes and assist in renewal review of existing policies.
Sets up various changes for processing outside of authority.
Works in conjunction with underwriting technicians in a call-center environment, providing backup and support to other team members, including training.
Actively participates in professional development, i.e., continuing education or self-improvement.
Other duties as assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED certificate is required.
Completion of INS Series or equivalent work experience required.
Equivalent work experience is a minimum of three years of commercial insurance experience.
Relevant industry designations are preferred.
Demonstrated PC skills including proficient use of Microsoft Office products.
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication ability required.
